A Word From Pastor Sadie

Welcome to Bethany United Methodist Church. Ours is a congregation of progressive Christians open to the direction of God and growing in grace together. Everyone is welcome here, just as they are. Join our vibrant and diverse Reconciling Congregation as we discover what God has in store.

I stand in a long, respectable line of pastors to this Christian community. Our roots go back to the 1800s, but Bethany is committed to the future. We have remodeled our old, failing building into a sign of newness at the corner of Clipper and Sanchez. We intend to be here at least another 100 years.

Our Pastor – Rev. Sadie Stone

The Rev. Sadie Stone has a Masters in Divinity from Yale Divinity School and a BA from the University of the Pacific in Religious Studies. She has been sole Pastor of Bethany UMC since July 2015. Pastor Sadie has a passion for Social justice, including LGBTQ rights, race relations and reproductive justice, interfaith work, and creative worship design. She’s a member of the California-Nevada Philippine Solidarity Task Force and sits on the board of the San Francisco Night Ministry. Prior to her ministry here, she served churches in Le Grand, CA and Palo Alto.

Pastor Sadie grew up in Winnemucca, NV and lives with her husband Reid, and twins Eli and Emerson. She has eclectic literary taste, reflected in the gross ton of books she refuses to get rid of, and her refusal to buy a kindle. Pastor Sadie also enjoys running, and the San Francisco Giants.

Music Director – Ray Capiral

Ray Capiral, pianist, composer and teacher, graduated from University of California, Los Angeles, in 2009. He enjoyed an active career as a private teacher and gigging musician in L.A. for ten years before moving north, and has now resided in the San Francisco Bay Area since 2011. Currently, Mr. Capiral serves as the music director at Bethany United Methodist Church, and enjoys part-time work knitting and teaching. He also teaches the free knitting group at Bethany on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at the church. Between knitting, spinning at his spinning wheel, and playing the piano, one can assume Ray is likely taking in the sights at Land’s End, wandering around Angel Island, or fantasizing about snowboarding in Tahoe. To inquire about concert space or any music needs or requests Contact Ray at Bethanysfmusic@gmail.com
